the lines in the "oven" are for writing contents of bakery box

Hand Washing Placard

Please note, G-d's name appears in the text, classifying this is sheimos.
A line about speaking before eating bread should probably be added... :)

Global Project

Designs for an exporting company's logo.
I was told nothing about the company or their design desires, except for "something a little better than what I could come up with using Paint"
As helpful as that was... i decided to give them a 'global' feel

Always Sign a Contract

Recently, a few friends have asked me to come up with some logos and/or monograms.

Unfortunately for me, i haven't asked them to sign a contract or for deposits up front because "who needs such things when working with friends?" -- WRONG!

So here i am, having wasted a few hours and brain cells - not to mention the hand pain incurred (carpal tunnel -- cliche, i know).... only having to receive the latest reply along the same lines of "Oh, my business partner ended up creating a design himself, but thanks."

One organization actually emailed me late at night frantically begging for some designs to be submitted by 9am the next morning. I checked with them in the morning and they were still desperate for some designs... Many hours after submitting the designs they were 'so desperate' for, i sent an email asking what they thought, only to receive a similar "oh, we went with another idea"

So, now i need to come up with a simple contract for clients stating something along the lines of 'client will pay artist $X upon completion of project, with $X due at start of project as a non-refundable deposit...full payment due before sending final design...'?

Any ideas?

Then again i'll need some actual rates and deposit amounts...

i know one graphic designer who charged $150 (about 6 years ago) for wedding monograms which included an initial 6-8 ideas.

Will an 'electronic signature' hold up?

I'll need to 'watermark' all samples/ideas i send out but how do i know someone won't end up taking my ideas (having them re-created if they are obscured by watermark) and running to someone else to do their design?

Chanukah Invaders

A certain Kiruv organization was looking for very very last minute t-shirt designs for a certain youtube video they were creating. I received an email randomly (okay, because of Ezzie) and told the sender i would not be able to make the deadline (which was a few hours away, and i was tucked away in bed already, without my graphic design programs at home). The sender was very desperate and asked me to please create these images ASAP. Apparently no one was able to make the ridiculous deadline.

First i asked about color usage, i knew they planned to screen print these onto tshirts and there are usually limits with that sort of thing. She never replied. So i created this -- on a black t-shirt it would be awesome:

just to clarify, they ASKED me to make such a design. First i had done it spelled exactly as the email from sender had said "Hanukah". Of course she replied they wanted "Chanukah"

Anyway they got back to me that they needed it all in black, so i made this:

Then they wanted 3 design options for the front of the shirt. Keeping with the theme, i came up with these three:
After all of that, they went with someone else's design.

At least i got some practice in.

Redesign?

Been getting re-involved in design now that my computer at work is fully loaded with CS4 (i'm sure they'll upgrade to CS5 soon). Been thinking of a 'company' redesign and switch from Stam Designs to A2 (a squared) designs.... just some thoughts i came up with while playing around ....
